GETTING LUCKY

I was wanting to take a day trip, cruise boat to Phang Nga bay and James Bond Island before the end of my stay on Phuket in 2013.

It just so happens I was in the right place at the right time for once, when I stopped at a little travel agent shop in the middle of Old Phuket Town.

I walked into the shop just to pick up some broachers, when the owner, a little old Chinese-Thai guy, came out and wanted to help, I usually brush sales guys off as I don’t like the hard sell you encounter sometimes with travel agents.

After a while his persistence broke me down and we started talking, as it turns out he was born in Phuket Town and lived his entire life in the shop house where his business was.

He was able to put me at ease and I began to trust him and his advice. He swore black and blue that he had the best tour for me and my girlfriend. ‘This is the best’ ‘Don’t look at these one’s’ he said!

I took a chance and bought 2 tickets for the next day costing 1,200 Baht each,  I gave him my hotel details and we continued on our merry way hoping for the best.

CONCLUSION

After being a permanent resident in Thailand for over 7 years when I look back on all the good times i have had, this day sticks out as one of the most memorable; it was simply an awesome day.

The funny thing was that the trip was centered around the idea that James Bond Island was the best part of the trip, it turned out that, it was the least special part of the day.

The staff of the boat really made this a fantastic day and we really got lucky when we got put on their boat.

  1. I’ve read your post on the 4 in 1 day tour to James Bond Island and would like to know the name of the travel agency that organizes this tour, because it looks appealing and the price affordable. As the next day we’ll take the ferry to Phi Phi, we chose to sleep in Phuket Town, which is not far from the pier to Phi Phi. Is it a good idea to sleep in downtown Phuket, taking into account that we’d like to do the 1 day tour to Phang Nga bay? Or is the pickup service only from Patong or Karon Beach?

    1. Hi Jean-Pierre,
I am sorry I can’t direct you to shop I went to when I booked this tour, it was just a small shop that I spotted while riding through Old Phuket town, he was just like many hundreds of travel agents all over the Island who book tour on a daily basis, I just got lucky with this guy, my advice is go talk to a travel agent near your hotel or a couple to compare the best price make sure you know the correct name of the hotel, best to carry the hotel card and info with you, I have been on plenty of tours and booked with many travel agents and they have never failed to pick me up or miss a trip, just have a little faith that they know what their doing.
I am sorry, I don’t know where downtown Phuket is, if your referring to Old Phuket Town, then yes, It’s a good place to stay, I often base my self there because it’s close to everywhere on the Island and away from the tourist traps. minivans will pick you up from anywhere on the island, you will be fine.
      hope this helps, Admin.

  2. Hello,

I have read your article and was wondering if you have been on the same tour again recently? Would you recommend going to the islands by speedboat? I am going to be in phuket kata beach area in march and we were debating whether to book online with JC tour or Phuket sail tours or booking at the stalls when we arrive.

    1. Hi Maria, no havent been on that tour lately, but to answer your question, speedboats get you where you want to go fast, they are often cramped, overcrouded, and have no view of where your going, it can hardly be called relaxing, and I avoid them if I can, you can’t beat the big slow boats for views and comfort, so which ever you decide, it’s always good to hunt around for the best price if you have the time, but if you don’t have time just compare between the online bookings and the guys booking closest to your hotel. occasionally you find a good deal and save some cash
