NAI HARN LOOKOUT
Nai Harn View Point is my personal favourite lookout to go to when showing my friends around Phuket, with spectacular sunsets to watch overlooking the Andaman Sea, and a massive 40 meter high wind turbine spinning in the back ground, it’s the type of place that just naturally puts your mind at ease.
From left – Promthep Cape – Ya Nui Beach – Man Island
Riding a scooter up the hill is how most people get to Nai Harn Lookout, and you can go there any time of the day or night to go have a look. Once you arrive, you can park your vehicle on the side of the road get out and stretch your legs.
Go right and straight at this intersection, then 100 meters more
There is a small shelter that provides some shade and some concrete seats to sit or lie on to gather your thoughts, there is usually a lady with a small food stall open, who sells some cheap food and drinks and can make a fruit smoothie for about 20 Baht.
A steady stream of tourist make their way to the site all day long checking out the view, it is also a popular place for Para-gliders to gather, who take advantage of the updraft and the step drop off that allows them to take to the skies.
LOVE IS IN THE AIR
The view point is also a romantic spot for couple to sit hand in hand on a rock or secluded spot on the grassy slopes and watch the sunset, there is usually a little Thai guy turn up with his acoustic guitar about an hour before sunset, and plays classic flamingo style music as the sun goes down, giving the scene even more atmosphere, so if you see him, give him a small 20 Baht tip for his troubles.
WHAT’S THAT UP THERE?
Your attention is drawn to Nai Harn View Point long before you get there, because of the 40 meter high wind turbine that stands proud atop of the hill, spinning slowly that can be seen from various vantage points in the surrounding country side.
The view from Promthep Cape
Because of the giant wind generator, the view point is also known as Windmill Lookout, and is always facing out into the bay over looking Man Island, the small Island immediately in front of the view point.
NAI HARN WIND FARM
Also known as – Promthep Alternative Energy Station, the wind farm is run by the – Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand, the wind farm has been an experiment in making electricity with wind turbines of different designs and sizes as well as solar cell arrays.
Tourist can wander into the grounds and look around while visiting the lookout and get up close and personal with these machines free of charge, food and drinks are available outside near the gazebo.
Nai Harn View Point is located between Nai Harn Beach and Na Yui Beach on top of the hill that divides them

HOW TO GET THERE
The wind mill Lookout is just off Highway 4233 in the southwest of the Island, head south from Karon and Kata Beaches and look for the big spinning blades or travel southwest from Rawai, then head north about 1.3 kms past Promthep cape.
The windmill view point makes a nice 5 minute detour if you’re going past the area. Drop in and take in the scenery, have a drink, take a photo and be on your way, it’s a nice spot.
