GETTING TO FREEDOM BEACH

There are 2 ways to get to Freedom Beach –

  • By Boat
  • By road, then walk.

FREEDOM BEACH BY BOAT

Getting to Freedom Beach by boat is a rip off, it’s just a 6 km ride from Patong and goes straight past Paradise Beach and the long boat operators will want 1,500 – 2,000 Baht for the 10 minute ride.

Make sure that you are paying for a round trip there and back, some people have been caught out by having to pay again to get back to Patong or Karon Beach.

FREEDOM BEACH BY ROAD

Getting to Freedom Beach by road is very easy, but the catch is that you have to walk down the last 400 meters to the beach along a trail, the trail can be accessed by motor bike or 4 x 4, but it is not recommended and staff may not let you as it is continually washed away by heavy rains.

It is best to park at the top and walk the track up and down, it is a steep climb back up and will require some effort, so your fitness should be reasonable before attempting it.

DIRECTIONS

The turn off to Freedom Beach is only about 2 kms south from Patong on highway 4233, the road that connects Patong to Karon Beach. It is not clearly marked by signage and the road is unkept and looks like a track.

Turn off at the marker on the map and follow the dirt road about 1.5 kms, care should be taken and low speed is advised as the road is in poor condition and has loose gravel and washouts.

The track down is wild and rough, 400 meters long and goes down through the rain forest  to the beach 100 meters below, so you can see, this is a 25° decline / incline going down and up, it’s a steep climb.

Food, drinks are available, umbrella’s and chairs are available for rent, but everything will cost much more than anywhere else because of the isolated and hard to get to location.
